Therése’s Coastal Home Transformation

On Sweden’s southern coast, Therése Gerdman—Sustainability Manager at Kährs—has reimagined a beloved summer cottage into a year-round family home. With kids, dogs, and busy lives, she wanted a space that balanced old charm with modern function.

We first visited our colleague Therese in April 2024 to see the house and understand what home meant to her family. The house was a charming summer cottage but not equipped for the changing seasons and growing family.

Extending, Not Replacing

One year later, Therése’s dream has taken shape. Rather than tearing down the old cottage, she chose to extend it—preserving its charm while creating a brighter, more spacious home for her family.
