Kährs Educates Timber buyers on Oak Forest Management

At Kährs, we are committed to educating our suppliers about management of oak forests. “We focus on the care of oak forests, from sapling to fully matured oak stands,” says Magnus Bergström, Timber Purchaser at Kährs Skogskontor.

Throughout the year, we have organized training days for timber buyers from various suppliers who provide oak timber for our flooring production in Nybro. Magnus adds, “Informing about oak forest management is an ongoing effort. This year, we have placed extra emphasis on it by launching this campaign in southern Sweden aimed at timber buyers.”

Engaging Larger Market Players

At Kährs, we source oak timber from both individual forest owners and large market players and this time we specifically targeted timber buyers within the larger organizations who often serve as advisors to forest owners on various levels. ”While they are used to dealing with common tree species such as spruce and pine, they also need more specialized knowledge of oak and oak stands. That’s why we organized these education sessions,” explains Magnus.

Proper Timber Handling

The focus of our training sessions was oak forest care, from planting to fully grown stands. “We also covered the importance of correct timber preparation to ensure the best possible yield and payment for the oak timber delivered to Kährs’ flooring production. Our training sessions sparked considerable interest and led to many valuable discussions. “This is the first time we’ve run this initiative ourselves, and it was very well received by the participants,” says Magnus.

Looking Ahead

The first educational day took place in Eslöv, followed by several more sessions. “Our goal is to continue offering training for timber buyers in more organizations. We remain committed to educating and sharing information about oak and oak forest management,” concludes Magnus.

At Kährs, we’re dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable forestry practices and look forward to continuing this important work with our partners.
